Effects:
Due to the low dosage of the drug it is not expected to cause the usual problems
associated with the oral or injectable forms of this drug.
Most side effects
or discomfort will be due to the surgical procedure itself. Most common
problems are associated with a loss of visual clarity and may last 2 to 4 weeks
after the surgery. Notify your doctor if you experience severe vision loss,
eye pain, eye swelling or inflammation or any bleeding in or around your eye.
Precautions:
Tell your doctor your entire medical history including any eye surgery, allergies,
(especially allergies to ganciclovir or acyclovir), other infections you may have
or any blood disorders.
Although the drug contained in this implant is
released in small doses be aware there are no studies to date on the effects of
this drug on pregnant women. Therefore this device should be used during
pregnancy only if clearly needed. Consult with your doctor. It is
not known if the drug in this implant is excreted into breast milk. However,
due to animal studies using other forms of this drug and because many drugs are
excreted into breast milk, it is suggested that mothers stop breast-feeding while
this implant is used. Consult with your doctor.

As a genetic tissue ablation model of BAT, we made transgenic mice expressing
herpes simplex virus thymidine kinase (HSV-TK) driven by the brown adipocytespecific
UCP1 minimal regulatory element.
The HSV-TK transgene was expressed specifically
in BAT and more than 35% increase of apoptosis was induced by ganciclovir (GCV)
treatment.
Both inner multilocular and peripheral unilocular adipocytes
were UCP-positive in all groups, whereas only unilocular adipocytes in BAT of
the GCV-treated UCP-TK mouse were leptin-positive.
Relative intensity
of leptin signal in the peripheral BAT was calculated after measuring the intensity
of signal in more than 100 brown adipocytes for each sample using Image-Pro Plus
program (Media Cybernetics).

Healthcare workers who prepare or administer
hazardous drugs or who work in areas where these drugs are used may be exposed
to these agents in air or on work surfaces, contaminated clothing, medical equipment,
patient excreta, or other sources.
The health risk is influenced by the
extent of the exposure and the potency and toxicity of the hazardous drug.
single biological marker has been found to be a good indicator of exposure to
hazardous drugs or a good predictor of subsequent adverse health effects onnor.
The following case reports illustrate the range of health effects exhibited after
exposure to antineoplastic drugs.

This disease site includes the following three
malignancies: multiple myeloma, amyloidosis, and waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia.
Presenting symptoms may include bone pain due to osteolytic lesions, resulting
from abnormal plasma cells proliferating and accumulating in the bone marrow;
weakness; and fatigue.

A plasmacytoma is an accumulation of plasma cell tumors located outside the bone
marrow.
