Valium used for nervousness or tension.

Side Effects:

This medication causes drowsiness and dizziness.

Avoid tasks requiring alertness.

Other side effects may include stomach upset, blurred vision, headache, confusion, depression, impaired coordination, change in heart rate, trembling, weakness, memory loss, hangover effect (grogginess), dreaming or nightmares.

Notify your doctor if you develop chest pain, change in heart rate, vision changes or yellowing of the eyes or skin.

In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek medical attention immediately.

Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness or trouble breathing. end drug care

Precautions:

Before using this drug, tell your doctor your medical history especially of liver or kidney disease and of any drug allergies.

Alcohol or other sedative type drugs can lead to extreme drowsiness.

Limit alcohol consumption.

Smoking can decrease the effectiveness of this drug.

Long term use can lead to dependence.

Take only as directed.

Do not increase your dose or take it longer than prescribed.

Elderly persons are usually more sensitive to the effects of this medication.

Use cautiously.

This medication is not recommended for use during pregnancy.

Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

Since this medication may appear in breast milk, consult with your doctor before breast-feeding.

IAnticonvulsants Change in seizure frequency or severity.

Antidepressants Increased sedative effect of both drugs.

Antihistamines Increased sedative effect of both drugs.

Antihypertensives Excessively low blood pressure.

Clozapine Toxic effect on the central nervous system.

Contraceptives, oral Increased benzodiazepine effect.

Disulfiram Increased benzodiazepine effect.

Dronabinol Increased effects of both drugs. Avoid.

Erythromycins Increased benzodiazepine effect.

Ketoconazole Increased benzodiazepine effect.

Levodopa Possible decreased levodopa effect.

MAO inhibitors Convulsions, deep sedation, rage.

Molindone Increased tranquilizer effect.

Nabilone Greater depression of central nervous system.

Narcotics Increased sedative effect of both drugs.

Nizatidine Increased effect and toxicity of benzodiazepine.

Omeprazole Delayed excretion of benzodiazepine causing increased amount of benzodiazepine in blood.

Probenecid Increased benzodiazepine effect.

Sedatives Increased sedative effect of both drugs.

Sleep inducers Increased sedative effect of both drugs.

Overdose

Symptoms:
Drowsiness, weakness, tremor, stupor, coma.

What To Do:

- Dial 0 (operator) or 911 (emergency) for an ambulance or medical help. Then give first aid immediately.
- If patient is unconscious and not breathing, give mouth-tomouth breathing. If there is no heartbeat, use cardiac massage and mouth-to-mouth breathing (CPR). Don't try to make patient vomit. If you can't get help quickly, take patient to nearest emergency facility.

Rare:
Slow heartbeat, Discontinue. Seek
breathing difficulty. emergency treatment.

Mouth, throat ulcers; Discontinue. Call
jaundice. doctor right away.
